I took Gumbo to the local May Days festival today. Judi is out of town, so I only took one dog and Gumbo drew the long straw. While we were there, he spent his allowance on a cowboy hat. He loves it. He says it makes him look like John Wayne.

After this picture and video were taken, I realized it looks much better if it is moved forward on his head, but I didn’t get any images of that. He says he wants to rope cats. I tried to tell him it was steer that cowboys rope, but he insists on roping cats

Hello out there in Poodle land.

I was outside with the camera when Creole and Gumbo got in to one of their chasing moods. This is a short clip of the video I took that day as Creole gets the tennis ball and plays keep-away from her brother.

I really love the part where he is chasing her and has her tail in his mouth. He does this a lot and we think it is hilarious.

We continue to love these two dogs and they continue to provide us with hours and hours of enjoyment. Sure, they are a pain sometimes, aren’t all dogs, kids and most people? But the fun outnumbers those times 10 to 1. We love our Poodles.

Last Sunday Gumbo was running around the yard with Creole. They were playing, wrestling and generally romping like they normally do when he came up limping.

We went to Dr. Bradshaw today and he has a broken toe. Dr. Bradshaw wrapped it and said Gumbo needs to have limited activity for the next few weeks until the toe heals. So, Gumbo is fine but he will be in his kennel most of the time for the next 4 weeks or so until his little toe is all better.

As I type this post, he is in his kennel ripping off the bandage, so we’ll see if he is able to keep it on. The vet said it is not necessary to keep the wrap on, but it will make the toe heal faster. We’ll see.

He weighs 42 pounds as of today and has not once let out a whine or a whimper about his toe. He is such a lovable dog that all he wants to do is be with us even if he is hurting. It is the inside toe on his front right foot. The vet said they put most weight on the two center toes when they run, which explains why he doesn’t always limp when he walks but usually does when he tries to run.

He’ll be fine I’m sure. He’ll just be confined for a while until it gets better. This has not affected his attitude at all. He is still the happiest and friendliest dog I have ever seen.

We took Gumbo to a different groomer this time and the results were much better. Here are a few pictures of him taken this morning after we got home from the groomer. He’s sooooo soft and fluffy and he looks much more like a Poodle. He was pretty shaggy on his face before we took him. We are going to keep his fur about as long as it is now, so now he and Creole are on the same grooming schedule. That makes it easier for us.

As you can see, Gumbo is rapidly approaching Creole in size.

Last week Judi and Creole headed for Florida for a visit and left us guys behind. We did guy stuff all week and headed for our camp on Lake Fork on Friday afternoon. We got up Saturday morning and went fishing. Granted we didn’t stay long because it was SOOO HOT, but it was Gumbo’s first time in the boat and he seemed to love it. He wanted to climb up on the front deck while the boat was moving fast, but I didn’t let him because he is still a little clumsy. Because our trip was cut short, I didn’t get any pictures or video. We only stayed out about an hour. We waited too late in the morning to go out.

A few weeks ago my sister who lives in Louisiana was at the house for a night. She had her granddaughter with her. Creole and Gumbo were their usual amazingly well-behaved and charming selves, so my sister left here saying she was getting a poodle. They have a black lab as well.

Well, as Gumbo and I were at the camp, my sister went to pick up a 10 week old brown and white Parti Poodle and brought him home. His name is Bingo, which is what my 2 yr old great niece called Gumbo when they played at the house a few weeks ago. We kept telling her GUMBO, not BINGO, but the children’s song overpowered our ability to change her, so they really had no choice than to name their new pup Bingo!

I’ll get on her to post some pictures.

Gumbo, remember running around in Momma [Meg] and Daddy’s [Max] front yard after it rained in Irving? It’s your brother Achilles ‘Killee’. I’m so glad I was able to hunt you down. We look so much alike. I’ve posted some photos my new owners [Mom and Dad] took of me in May and then a couple of me with them on July 4th. They are going to post more once they download from their camera. They are always snapping that darn thing in my face!

Hey, do you like to pay frisbee and catch ball? My Mom and Dad play that game with me constantly. I also like to chase crickets, birds, flies, tear up WalMart bags, and even bark at the cows and horses in the back of our house. They never bark back, though. Hey, let’s keep in touch and please visit me if you ever come to Dallas again. Later Gumbo! [Paw slap]

My dad got an email from some really nice people who are the people parents of my brother. We posted a picture of him below. Once our people parents compared notes, they found out that both my brother and me are very good, well-mannered Poodles.

It is good to be in touch with my brother. I barely remember him, but now thanks to the web we can stay in touch. Who knows, maybe we’ll get together and chase a cat someday

They took me to the groomer today and left me for 5 hours. It was kinda scary but in the end I came out looking like a handsome poodle. We also saw the vet last week and he said I was in great shape and to keep on wrestling with my sister. Last week I weighed 23 lb 7 oz.

After my haircut I look like I weigh 5 pounds, but I am much cooler and will track a lot less dirt and grass into the house.

Gumbo

This is so much fun! For all you dogs out there with a big sister, all you have to do is wait until you both have a chewy toy, or in this case our favorite, a pig skin. Wait until your sister is enjoying it, then make her leave her chew toy and take yours while you take her’s.

This is soooo much fun, I just love to do it. She doesn’t seem to mind but I know it bugs her at least a little bit

I am a male Standard Poodle, tan in color and am currently 10 weeks old. I love to run and play and I REALLY love to bite my older sister, Creole, on the mouth.

Our days are spent playing and chasing tennis balls when we can get our people to throw them for us. I am potty trained (for the most part) and I love hiding in the bushes and ambushing my sister when she comes by.
