What Flea Treatment Do You Use on Your Poodle?

Filed under: Everything Else — Scott @ 11:14 pm

When I took Gumbo to the vet the other day, I realized they are both in the 41-80 pound weight class so the dosage of their medicine is the same now. That was a relief.

What treatment do you use for your dog? Have you found it any cheaper than I show it below?

We use Revolution because it treats fleas, ticks and heart worms. Of course, before using this you need to make sure your dog does not have heart worms, see your vet for that. We have used the other brand that doesn’t cover the heart worms, but why have to keep up with two treatments if you don’t have to? Revolution seems to work fine on fleas. We are surrounded by trees on three sides in our back yard and we have yet to see a flea on either dog.

Save Money On Revolution:
After paying $94.80 for six months of Revolution at the vet’s office, I have just found it online for $58.99, that’s 37% less not including the tax savings of buying out of state online. A lesson learned. Check out Revolution at Entirely Pets. A six month supply is 61.99. Use coupon code OCT07OFF3 (expires October 31, 2007) to get an additional $3 off at checkout. That brings the price down to $58.99. I am not sure what your vet charges, but that is a significant savings over my vet’s price. We will need to get a prescription from the vet, but that is not a problem. Ground shipping is $4.95 and shipping is free over $100, so you can get a 12 month supply and lower the cost even more.

  1. We give Achilles ‘Killee” Sentinel [Novartis] flavor tabs. They combat five parasites including fleas, heartworms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. You have to have a vet prescription and they don’t protect against ticks, however, Killee is never in a “tick environment”. And we check over him thoroughly for after we go to the pupper park. He’s yet to get one.
Sounds like Revolution is good for ticks, which Sentinel doesn’t cover. We like it that Sentinel combats the hook/round/whip worms which puppies can easily get. They are flavor tabs so Killee gobbles it up each month. A six-month supply was $63 at the vet. I think you can get it online at vetpet med cyber shops, however you will need a vet prescription. The manufacturer, Novartis, also offer $10 rebate a 12-month supply

Great topic, Scott!!! Hope others chime in.

  2. We have used Revolution for the lifespan of our poodles. It works excellent in Florida. Our dogs are indoor/outdoor pets and we do not have any parasite problems. Our local vet gives us the same price as we can get online. Just ask.
